Abstract(s)
Civil.
The work was done due to the need to simulate events such as storms, namely through the development of a prototype in a two-dimensional channel in order to analyze the consequences for later forecasting and alert them. In the stability tests, the method of analysis commonly used is the visual counting of the number of movements and falls of the elements that make up armor layer of the breakwater. This technique is mainly conditioned by the experience of the observer. The frequently used wave conditions analysis methods are spectral analysis (based on an energy spectrum) and the time analysis, both requiring a computer tool, as is the case of SAM. This tool is used for generation of agitation, acquisition and easy analysis of the data collected in scale model tests. Tests were conducted on a two-dimensional scale model in one of the irregular wave flumes at Ports and Marine Structures Section (NPE) of the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC). The mooring area of the southern breakwater of Praia da Vitória harbor was used as the cross section, and the tested peak periods were 10s, 14s and 18s associated with different significant wave heights between 5.50 and 9.00 meters for high and low tides.
