Abstract(s)
No estudo,
Abstract: Given the recently proposed typology of passive constructions as eventives (ser), resultative (ficar) and stative (estar) (Embick 2004, Duarte and Oliveira 2010; Duarte 2013), the aim of this study is to evaluate, through an experimental study, if students of Higher Education can distinguish these three types of passive and their different specificities and if they are sensitive to the properties of verbs that can occur in the passive construction. The experimental study was designed as a grammaticality judgment task. The study involved 47 students in the 1st year of degree. Sixty pairs of sentences (with 20 verbs), which contrasted eventive and stative passives, eventive and resultative, and resultative and stative, plus 5 pairs of sentences fillers. The results show that there is no difficulty in recognizing the structures under consideration. In the experimental study, we have introduced some test items that functioned as fillers, but which served to test the ability to distinguish verbs that can occur in passive sentences in European Portuguese and those that cannot. The results show that the students had some difficulty in recognizing the characteristics of verbs that can occur in this construction, which corroborates the results obtained by Estrela (2012), that account for the production of passive with transitive verbs by students in Higher Education.
