Abstract(s)
The emergence of a global pandemic and the associated economic crisis brought concerns to all Portuguese, particularly about loss of income. This dissertation was prepared based on a bibliographical survey of academic documents and books with a focus on understanding not only the impact that the COVID-19 disease had on the evolution of housing and consumer credits but also how it influenced the Portuguese in complying with their obligations to financial institutions. With the emergence of a global pandemic, the Portuguese government approved measures to protect Portuguese families and companies, specifically the creation of moratoriums. In this context, the evolution of adherence to moratoriums by the Portuguese will be analyzed. Finally, a questionnaire was carried out to find out which type of credit was most requested by respondents and whether they had lost income due to the pandemic. Another question asked of the respondent is whether the COVID-19 disease affected the fulfillment of their financial obligations and whether they had the need to resort to any moratorium. When analyzing the responses obtained through the questionnaire, an analysis of the sample was carried out by age groups, followed by a global analysis of the sample, which concluded that housing credit is the most used by respondents and less than 10% of respondents adhered to the moratoriums. Finally, reports and accounts from Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Banco Santander were consulted, and it was found that housing credit is the most requested by the Portuguese.
