- Risk assessment and control measures from exposure to electromagnetic fields in mobile communicationsPublication . Marques, A.; Pena, Vítor; Nunes, FernandoThis report aims to inform the assessment of risks and the preventive measures adopted to control exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) from base stations of a mobile network, starting in the design phase, through the entry into service and during their operation, with respect to the general public and the workers involved in maintenance work.
- Optimization of the CoPsoQ questionnaire in a population of Archipelago of AzoresPublication . Nunes, Fernando; Silva, A. Gaspar daThe presente study analyzes the internal consistency and reability of an already widely disseminated and nationally and internationally validated questionnaire applied to a selected population of the Autonomous Region of Azores. The questionnaire consists of the 119 items in the long-lenght version of the Portuguese adaptation of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (CoPsoQ). Applying factor analysis techniques to the results of the 234 questionnaire collected, an optimized questionnaire was constructed with 54 items that, besides its ease of application, also presents better cost-benefit and reliability in the majority of item`s scales/dimensions.
- Bilateral contracting in multi-agent energy markets with demand responsePublication . Lopes, Fernando; Algarvio, Hugo; Sousa, Jorge A. M.In competitive energy markets (EMs), customers can freely choose their energy suppliers. The electricity trade can be done in organized markets or using forward bilateral contracts. Currently, there are several simulation tools based on multi-agent techniques that allow modeling, partially or globally, competitive EMs. The existing tools allow simulating negotiation prices and volumes through bilateral contracts, transactions in pool markets, etc. However, these tools have some limitations, mainly due to the complexity of the electric system. In this context, this article focuses on bilateral trading and presents the key features of software agents able to negotiate forward bilateral contracts. Special attention is devoted to demand response in bilateral contracting, notably utility functions and trading strategies for promoting demand response. The article also presents a case study on forward bilateral contracting with demand response: a retailer agent and an industrial customer agent negotiate a 24h-rate tariff.
- Embedded energy storage systems in the power grid for renewable energy sources integration.Publication . Faia, Sérgio; Sousa, Jorge A. M.; Castro, RuiRenewable Energy is energy generated from natural resources - such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat - which are naturally replenished. In 2008, about 18% of global final energy consumption came from renewables, with 13% coming from traditional biomass, such as wood burning. Hydroelectricity was the next largest renewable source, providing 3% (15% of global electricity generation), followed by solar hot water/heating, which contributed with 1.3%. Modern technologies, such as geothermal energy, wind power, solar power, and ocean energy together provided some 0.8% of final energy consumption. The book provides a forum for dissemination and exchange of up - to - date scientific information on theoretical, generic and applied areas of knowledge. The topics deal with new devices and circuits for energy systems, photovoltaic and solar thermal, wind energy systems, tidal and wave energy, fuel cell systems, bio energy and geo-energy, sustainable energy resources and systems, energy storage systems, energy market management and economics, off-grid isolated energy systems, energy in transportation systems, energy resources for portable electronics, intelligent energy power transmission, distribution and inter - connectors, energy efficient utilization, environmental issues, energy harvesting, nanotechnology in energy, policy issues on renewable energy, building design, power electronics in energy conversion, new materials for energy resources, and RF and magnetic field energy devices.
