Entre 15% e 30% das crianças de 2 a 5 anos de idade têm algum problema de sono, com repercussões no seu desenvolvimento e bem‐estar. Nestas crianças os pais, mas também os educadores, são os principais responsáveis pelo controlo e monitorização da qualidade do sono. Comparação entre as crenças parentais e de educadores de infância relativamente a: Necessidades de sono (incluindo sestas); problemas de sono; estratégias de adormecimento; papel dos pais e do jardim de infância na regulação do sono da criança; Grupos focais: 5 grupos de pais (N=50); 6 grupos de educadores (N=29) de crianças entre os 2 e os 5 anos. Foi utilizado um guião com perguntas abertas correspondentes a cada uma das dimensões descritas nos objetivos. Gravação em áudio e vídeo. Análise de conteúdo. Verifica‐se concordância entre as crenças de pais, mães e educadores em relação a necessidades de sono e de sestas; discrepâncias quanto a práticas de facilitação do adormecimento. Distinguem os seus papéis na regulação do sono da criança e expressam preocupações diferenciadas em relação aos problemas de sono. Pais e educadores referiram a necessidade de melhor comunicação em relação aos problemas de sono das crianças. Estes resultados podem contribuir para o desenvolvimento de intervenções primárias, em contexto pré‐escolar, sobre o sono infantil.
ABSTRACT - According to recent studies 15% to 39% of children between 2 and 5 years old experience a sleep problem that has repercussions on their development and their wellbeing. At this age parents and, also, school educators are the main responsible for monitoring and promoting the quality of the child’s sleep. To compare parents (fathers and mothers) and pre‐school educator’s perceptions about children’s sleep needs (including daytime naps) and sleep problems; strategies to promote sleep; the role of parents and educators in the child ‘s sleep self‐regulation. Focus Group: 5 focus groups with parents (N=50); 6 focus groups with educators (N=29) of children aged from 2 to 5 years. We used a script with open questions regarding the dimensions mentioned in the objective. Content analyses were performed. We found a high degree of concordance among fathers, mothers, and educators regarding sleep needs and naps; discordance was found regarding practices to facilitate a child’s sleep and sleep hygiene. Parents and educators referred differences in their role to promote children’s sleep quality and expressed different worries about sleep problems. The need for better communication between parents and school educators was also highlighted by both parents and educators. These results can be used for the development, of primary interventions on infant sleep in a preschool context.
