As sociedades modernas assistem a um envelhecimento populacional sem precedentes com as consequentes mudanças que ocorrem nos papéis sociais desempenhados pelos indivíduos. Estas transformações nas estruturas das sociedades são potenciadoras de inovações sociais, surgindo a universidade sénior como motor dessa inovação, qual curador informal, ao exercer funções e definir objetivos de inserção dos seniores em atividades promotoras de estilos de vida saudáveis. Uma dessas atividades é o turismo sénior, o qual procura proporcionar ao visitante a vivência de mais experiências em detrimento da aquisição de mais bens, como se ilustra com o exemplo do turismo na USALMA® – Universidade Sénior de Almada.
Modern societies witness an unprecedented population aging with the consequent changes that occur in the social roles played by individuals. These transformations in societal structures are potentiating social innovations, and the senior university has emerged as the engine of this innovation. Acting as an informal curator they exercise functions and define goals of inserting seniors in activities that promote healthy lifestyles. One of these activities is senior tourism, which seeks to provide the visitor with more experiences rather than the acquisition of more goods, as illustrated by the example of tourism at USALMA® - Almada Senior University.
