| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT - The GhostDance research project explores the changes in dancers' body perception when interacting with virtual bodies. Virtual reality's volatile and insubstantial nature, with its liquid architectures (Novak, 1992) and massless, weightless and fluid bodies, can be seen as inherently ghostly. The study aims to investigate how the presence and interaction with a body are influenced by the existence of a spectral dimension, be it our own body or that of another person or virtual entity. The research includes a live performance where two dancers contrast dance between physical and virtual reality partners, creating a phantasmagorical dialogue between human and virtual bodies. The study looks at changes in sensory-motor perception, kinesphere awareness, tactile experience, and the perception of weight and effort of dancers performing with virtual characters. It draws upon first-hand accounts from dancers to shed light on the complex interaction between physical and virtual elements in the dancers’ experience. | dc.description.abstract | O projeto de investigação GhostDance explora as alterações na perceção corporal dos bailarinos quando interagem com corpos virtuais. A natureza volátil e insubstancial da realidade virtual, com as suas arquiteturas líquidas (Novak, 1992) e corpos sem massa, sem peso e fluidos, pode ser vista como inerentemente fantasmagórica. O estudo visa investigar como a presença e a interação com um corpo são influenciadas pela existência de uma dimensão espectral, seja o nosso próprio corpo, o de outra pessoa ou o de uma entidade virtual. A investigação inclui uma performance ao vivo em que dois bailarinos contrastam a dança entre parceiros da realidade física e virtual, criando um diálogo fantasmagórico entre corpos humanos e virtuais. O estudo analisa as mudanças na percepção sensório-motora, na consciência da cinesfera, na experiência tátil e na percepção de peso e esforço dos bailarinos que atuam com personagens virtuais. Baseia-se em relatos em primeira mão dos bailarinos para esclarecer a complexa interação entre elementos físicos e virtuais na experiência dos bailarinos.
