Introdução: Segundo dados da OMS, o principal flagelo do século XXI é o cancro colo-retal (CCR). Em Portugal, o CCR é a segunda causa de morte por doenças tumorais destacando-se o Alentejo Litoral e o Alto Alentejo como as regiões com maior taxa bruta de mortalidade. Objetivos: Identificar atitudes, comportamentos (hábitos alimentares, realização de rastreios) e conhecimentos da população de Portalegre (Alto Alentejo) face ao rastreio do CCR, de forma a determinar fatores que influenciam a adesão a estes rastreios, e suportar o delineamento de estratégias preventivas deste flagelo, por parte da população. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo, de carácter transversal e quantitativo, através de um questionário de autopreenchimento - Knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices about colorectal cancer among adults in the area of Southern Italy, aplicado a uma amostra de conveniência, constituída por 82 participantes, entre os 50 e os 74 anos (M=61,1; SD=6,3 anos), residentes em Portalegre. O tratamento dos dados foi feito através do Statistical for Social Sciences (SPSS) versão 24, realizando-se análise descritiva e de regressão logística multivariada. Resultados: Verificou-se uma atitude positiva da amostra relativamente à importância dos testes de rastreio (56,1%), no entanto 54,4% revelaram não praticar nenhuma atividade física e uma elevada percentagem (75,6%) respondeu de forma incorreta à definição do CCR. Conclusão: Os resultados apontam para a necessidade de implementação de estratégias de promoção da saúde que visem o aumento de informação sobre o CCR, bem como da realização de rastreios, sendo essencial a articulação entre os vários profissionais de saúde.
ABSTRACT - Introduction: According to WHO data, the main scourge of the 21st century is colorectal cancer (CRC). In Portugal, CRC is the second leading cause of death from tumor diseases, with Alentejo Litoral and Alto Alentejo being the regions with the highest gross mortality rate. Objectives: Identify attitudes, behaviors (eating habits, screening), and knowledge of the population of the district of Portalegre (Alto Alentejo) regarding the CRC screening in order to determine factors that influence adherence to these screenings and support the design of preventive strategies against this scourge, by the population. Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative study, using a self-administered questionnaire, designed for the study “Knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices about colorectal cancer among adults in the area of Southern Italy”, applied to a convenience sample, consisting of 82 participants between 50 and 74 years old, (M =61.1; SD = 6.3 years), living in Portalegre. The data were processed using the Statistical for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24, with descriptive analysis and multivariate logistic regression. Results: There was a positive attitude on the part of the sample towards the importance of screening tests (56,1%), however, 54,4% revealed not to practice any physical activity and a high percentage (75.6%) answered incorrectly regarding the definition of the CCR. Conclusion: The results point to the need for implementation and health promotion strategies aimed at increasing information about the CCR, as well as conducting screenings and the articulation between the various health professionals is essential.
