Abstract(s)
The world economy is under enormous pressure regarding the problem of growing scarcity of resources and waste production. The linear model calls into question the planet's regeneration, given the pressure it exerts on it. The Circular Economy emerges as a sustainable strategic solution that decouples economic growth from waste generation, and aims to protect the environment through sustainable production and consumption practices. The transition from linear to circular is a process that can incorporate difficulties that must be overcome and, for it to be advantageous and successful, it is necessary to develop new practices and business models. In Portugal, sectorial and regional action plans have already been defined to be put into practice in the coming years. As for portuguese companies in the Textile and Clothing Industry, after analyzing this issue quantitatively and qualitatively, through surveys to companies and consumers and interviews to a company and a technological center in the sector, the advances made in terms of reconversion are already evident. from a linear to a circular model. However, companies are not yet fully prepared for this conversion, as there are some barriers to be overcome, such as the difficulty in recycling certain materials or separating fiber mixtures, the lack of financial resources and the risk associated to the conversion. State support through financial incentives and greater collaboration between companies from the same sector and different sectors is needed in order to achieve the desired goals.
