ABSTRACT: The present internship report details the activities carried out and the techniques applied during the internship at the Forensic Genetics service of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, South Delegation, in Lisbon, within the scope of the master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technologies. This internship provided practical experience in the application of molecular genetics techniques in a forensic context, consolidating the theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the master's program and developing essential skills for working in the field of Forensic Genetics. The laboratory activities included DNA extraction and quantification, PCR amplification, electrophoresis, and genetic profile analysis, using specific kits, advanced equipment, and genetic analysis software. Observing practices performed in the forensic laboratory context further consolidated the acquired knowledge, highlighting the importance of the field in underpinning decisions made in criminal investigations. The acquisition of technical and analytical skills was fundamental for the application of knowledge in practical contexts, emphasizing the importance of the role of the forensic genetics expert in the justice system. This report demonstrates comprehensive and practical training, reflecting the activities carried out during the internship and the objectives of the master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technologies.
