ABSTRACT: This artistic project investigates transition approaches and techniques between tenor trombone and bass trombone, aiming to identify key technical differences and develop practical methods to facilitate this transition for trombonists. This research is especially relevant in today's orchestral landscape, where the role of Wechselposaune—a trombonist who plays both instruments—is increasingly valued, offering musicians the opportunity to increase their versatility within the orchestral system. The project combines a critical literature review with interviews with professional trombonists with substantial experience in this practice. Through this mixed qualitative approach, the study proposes a set of strategies that can support instrumental adaptability and inform pedagogy. The findings deepen the understanding of physiological and technical adjustments in the transition between instruments and offer applicable guidance for music pedagogy and instrumental training, promoting efficient and ergonomic performance that meets the demands of the contemporary orchestral market. Overall, the project contributes conceptually—clarifying the demands of embouchure, airflow control, valve use, and timbre design across instruments—and practically, mapping evidence-based routines that promote efficient and ergonomic performance aligned with contemporary orchestral expectations.
