A ação de bailarinos e atores virtuais e a performance em palcos virtuais têm motivado pesquisas criativas e conceptuais, com muitos resultados interessantes e inovadores, que ganharam impulso e visibilidade com a evolução da tecnologia de motion capture desde o final dos anos 1990. Esta temática será abordada com foco no campo da dança percorrendo o desenvolvimento de práticas artísticas internacionais e os seus diferentes processos e objetivos, bem como incursões no âmbito da prática como investigação. Além disso são destacadas questões teóricas e emergentes no campo interdisciplinar das artes performativas e dos novos media que têm rodeado esta área de criação e pensamento.
ABSTRACT - The action of virtual dancers and actors and the performance on virtual stages have motivated prolific creative and conceptual research, with many interesting and innovative results. They gained momentum and wider visibility with the evolution of motion capture technology since the late 1990s. My approach has a focus on the field of dance, covering the development of international artistic practices and their different processes and objectives, as well as incursions into the scope of practice as research. Furthermore, theoretical issues emerging in the interdisciplinary field of performing arts and new media, that are engaged in this area of creation and critical thinking, are highlighted.
