Abstract(s)
Abstract - Improvisation is a complex reality, but with an extreme importance to a musicianās development. It is a fundamental aspect in the performerās formation and in the search for musical knowledge needed to the personal and professional integrity of the organist. To better understand this theme, a study that started with the analysis of the Jeffrey Brillhartās Book Breaking Free, published in 2011 was developed. The author presents a method of organ improvisation based on 20th Century French music techniques, in order to help the organist find a personal language and the path to an improvisation style of his own. This artistic report aims to analyse Brillhartās method through the search of a definition of improvisation and a reflection about it. To the practical fulfilment of the project a short individual study was made, in order to test the practice of the method in question. It was concluded that concentration, focus, motivation, analysis, and memory, among others, are factors influencing the study of improvisation. On the other hand, the student's role is crucial in the search of strategies and an individual practice method, thus contributing to the growth and enrichment of the player of the XXI century.
