Abstract(s)
Roads public lighting has been recently object of research. Energy efficiency and safety for drivers and pedestrians are the focus of this research. The subject is the Municipality of Loures. It were analyzed: the relationship between the number of road accidents and casualties during daylight and night over the period 2000-2015; infrastructure and equipment for public lighting; and traditional and state-of-the-art (LED) technologies. The main source of road accident data was the National Road Safety Authority. The main sources of data of public roadway lighting infrastructure were EDP and the Town Hall of Loures. The road accidents and casualties of the Municipality of Loures were compared to those of Municipality of Lisbon. It was found that most of the accidents and casualties occurred during the "dark" period. Regarding LED technology to energy efficiency, it has been found that LED reduces energy costs, the lightening is more efficient and less pollutant. It was found that the Local Authorities in collaboration with EDP has made investments in the Loures Council to improve energy efficiency replacing traditional lights with LED technology.
