Pretende-se com esta dissertação perpetuar a tradição carnavalesca das cegadas em Setúbal e lançar o repto para que as mesmas sejam reativadas e novamente incluídas nos festejos carnavalescos da cidade.
Outro aspeto que se pretende demonstrar com este estudo é o cariz de Teatro Comunitário que as cegadas apresentam e a forma como as pessoas se reviam e vivenciavam as histórias hilariantes representadas nas cegadas.
A importância das cegadas vista como cultura popular e a sua passagem de geração em geração, a tradição oral, a sua comparação com a revista à portuguesa, com as canções de escárnio e maldizer e a sua ligação ao Fado complementam e contextualizam a presente investigação.
ABSTRACT - The purpose of this thesis is to perpetuate the Carnival tradition of the “cegadas” in Setúbal and to submit an appeal to have them reactivated and included once again in the town’s Carnival festivities. Another aspect this study intends to demonstrate is the Community Theatre nature of the “cegadas” and the manner in which people identified themselves with and experienced the hilarious stories represented in the “cegadas”. This investigation is complemented and contextualized by the importance of the “cegadas” seen as popular culture and their transition from generation to generation, the oral tradition, their comparison with the Portuguese revue, with songs of scorn and slander and their connection with Fado.
