Abstract(s)
Pedrógão Grande é um concelho rural situado no centro interior do país. Em meados do século XX este era um concelho de emigração, pois muitos dos pedroguenses tiveram que sair da sua terra à procura de melhores condições de vida. As características agroflorestais não ofereciam condições de trabalho ou emprego para os filhos da terra. Como consequência, hoje estamos em presença de um território com baixa densidade populacional e muito envelhecido (a população idosa ronda os 60%). Desta forma, é preciso estimular povoadores, e desde há algum tempo têm chegado às aldeias do concelho estrangeiros que ali adquirem casas e fazem a sua vida. Esta população migrante é já estimada em mais de 10% da população do concelho que ronda os 3392 habitantes. Estes estrangeiros são pouco conhecidos, vivem fechados sobre si mesmos e só se veem à segunda-feira no mercado municipal para fazer compras. Nas aldeias sabem que naquela casa vive uma família de estrangeiros mas ficam por aí, são dois mundos diferentes e distantes que embora vivam próximos não mantêm qualquer relação ou interação para além da civilidade expectável. O propósito deste trabalho é obter algum conhecimento sobre esta comunidade através dum contacto / abordagem direta. Estamos a realizar conversas / entrevistas semiestruturadas onde colocamos algumas questões para percebermos quem são e assim caracterizarmos esta comunidade através de um retrato social seguido de uma abordagem sobre o acolhimento das instituições públicas: finanças, Câmara Municipal, centro de saúde, no sentido de classificarmos essa relação e o modo/ sugestões para a sua melhoria. Por fim procuramos captar as suas razões/motivações, por que é que escolheram Pedrógão Grande para viver e o que esperavam e/ou esperam desta comunidade Pedroguense, ponto em que aproveitamos para dar a conhecer, falar um pouco sobre o concelho. Ou seja, no final saímos da entrevista e criamos um espaço mais livre de troca ou de conversa que tem sido muito rico e bastante frutífero para conhecer esta população e as suas necessidades, bem como, prestar informação e até o encaminhamento com vista à sua integração ou legalização. Pois sabemos que, no contexto da migração as questões de legalização ou mesmo só a sua inscrição no centro de saúde, são de extrema importância para o exercício da sua cidadania e da promoção do seu bem-estar e segurança. Desta forma, este texto visa apresentar os resultados deste trabalho de caracterização dos migrantes de Pedrógão Grande e da aproximação ao mesmo, consideramos que é preciso visitar as realidades concretas porque é aí na presença e com os atores que a mudança pode germinar e que a integração social pode ser estimulada ou efetivada.
ABSTRACT - Pedrógão Grande is a rural council located in the center of Portugal. In the mid-20th century, this council was known for its high emigration rates as many people had to leave their land in search of better living conditions. The agroforestry characteristics didn’t offer enough working conditions or employment for this land’s children. As a consequence, today we clearly see a territory with a very low population density, very desertified, and aged (the elderly population is around 60%). For quite some time, foreigners have been arriving in the country’s villages, buying houses, and making their living there. This migrant population is already estimated to be more than 10% of the council’s population - out of a total population of 3700 people we predict to have around 370 foreigners. These foreigners are little known to the local population, living very close to themselves, away from everyone, and they usually only come on Mondays to the local market to shop for groceries. In the villages, they know that a family of foreigners lives in that specific house and that they remain there. This clearly represents the existence of two different and distant worlds. Although they live very close, they are quite far away and they do not maintain any kind of relationship or interaction beyond the expected. The purpose of this work aims to get to know this community through a direct approach. We are conducting semi-structured conversations/interviews where we ask some questions to understand who they are and thus characterize this community through a socio-graphic portrait followed by an approach on welcoming the public institutions: finance, city council, health center, etc. in order to classify this relationship and understand how it can be improved. Finally, we sought to capture their reasons and motivations: why they chose Pedrógão Grande to live in and what they expected of this particular community - where we took the opportunity to make ourselves known and talk a little about the county. At the end of the interview, we left and created a freer space for the exchange of conversation which has been very rich and very fruitful to get to know this population and their needs as well as provide information and even referrals with a view to their integration or legalisation. Because we know that in the context of migration issues of legalisation - or even just your registration at the health center - are extremely important for the exercise of your citizenship and the promotion of your well-being and safety. In this way, the text we propose aims to present the results of this work of characterisation of the migrants in Pedrógão Grande and their respective approaches. We believe that it is necessary to visit the concrete realities since it’s there, in person, with the actors, that change can germinate and social integration can be stimulated.
