Abstract(s)
The use of new technologies in the industry business have brought several changes to this sector. Nowadays, companies need to present themselves competitive at a global scale, whereby the internet boom, the increase of internet availability and easy access to processed information are revealing the need for industrial production systems to adapt to this new global age. The present dissertation aims to study the new dynamics that Industry 4.0 will bring to the manufacturing processes and their impact on the organizations. This work starts by giving an overview and analysis of the existing industrial activity in the European Union and Portugal, showcasing several political measures intended to boost the industry business by improving its competitiveness. In this study, several proposals for new business models and maintenance tools will be proposed, such as live control on equipment condition, data collection and analysis of equipment performance indicators, remote maintenance, the use of augmented reality for maintenance purposes, and new approaches to maintenance management systems. To conclude, a practical case was presented, for the different evolution scenarios one specific equipment (End Suction centrifugal pump) is presented in the 4.0 industrial environmental, concerning the equipment day-to-day servicing and management. With the present work, it’s possible to state that new technologies of the forth industrial revolution will have an impact on manufacturers, promoting the integration of sensorial and digital systems in equipment, such as monitoring platforms and condition control of equipment.
