Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: This work explores the representation of ethnic minorities in candidate speeches for the 2022 legislative elections. Since Portugal has welcomed people from other countries with various cultures, habits, and lifestyles, issues relating to ethnic minorities have become more important in the public space with the growth of migratory flows and particularly with the growth of immigration. In this study, it is proposed to examine the situations in which candidates for the 2022 legislative elections remark about ethnic minorities and to highlight instances in which the subject under study is omitted. It will also cover a critical discourse analysis of the 30 candidate debates for the 2022 legislative elections that were aired on RTP1, SIC/SIC Notícias, and TVI/CNN. Ethnic minorities are the victims of inequities and discrimination, and it should be a concern of all candidates to work towards their abolition so that everyone can take advantage of all rights and opportunities. After all, representatives of the nation are sort of the nation's mirror.
