A cultura organizacional está presente em todas as empresas e encontra-se relacionada com um conjunto de valores e práticas existentes dentro de uma
organização que moldam os comportamentos dos indivíduos que lhe pertencem. A evolução dos mercados, o aparecimento de novas tecnologias, os imprevisíveis choques económicos e a globalização da concorrência podem ser, e usualmente são, sinónimo de mudança. Cabe a cada
organização a decisão de dar, ou não, inicio à mudança organizacional.
Deve o líder, porque é essa, como veremos, uma das suas funções essenciais, escolher o tipo de mudança mais adequada à sua organização e que garanta uma resposta rápida e eficaz ao mercado concorrencial, de acordo com a sua visão. Perante todas as características que o líder possui
é importante decifrar quais as que estão relacionadas com a mudança organizacional e quais as que não têm influência sobre a mesma. Perante um líder inovador e conservador, quais as características que cada um possui que lhes permite ou não por em prática a mudança organizacional?
Qual a posição de um líder inovador e de um líder, por contraste, conservador perante a mudança organizacional? Será que estes dois estilos de liderança praticam a mudança organizacional? Estas são as questões que deram origem ao presente trabalho.
Organizational culture is present in all enterprises and is related to a set of values and practices within an organization that shape the behavior of individuals who belong to the company. The evolution of markets, the development of new technologies, the unpredictable economic shocks and globalization of competitors may be, and usually are, synonymous of change. It is up to each organization to decide if an organizational change should take place or not. The leader must, because that is, as we will see, one of his major function, choose the most appropriate type of change to the organization, ensuring a quick and effective response to the competitive market, corresponding to his vision. Given all the leader’s attributes, it is important to decipher which could be related to the organizational change and which have no influence at all on it. Before an innovator leader and, by contrast, a conservative one, what could be the peculiarities for each that could allow/prevent them to put an organizational change into practice? What is the position of an innovator leader and a conservative one towards organizational change? Will these two leadership styles put to practice an organizational change? These are the questions that led to the present work.
