| dc.description.abstract | IntroduĆ§Ć£o ā O acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) aumenta com a idade. No entanto, as incapacidades resultantes do AVC numa populaĆ§Ć£o jovem e ativa tĆŖm um grande impacto no indivĆduo e na sociedade. Objetivo ā Analisar as caracterĆsticas pessoais, clĆnicas e funcionais dos indivĆduos com AVC em idade ativa, verificando a associaĆ§Ć£o entre variĆ”veis e comparando os seus resultados com os indivĆduos idosos com AVC. MĆ©todo ā Estudo observacional, descritivo e transversal. A populaĆ§Ć£o em estudo foram os indivĆduos com AVC enviados para a fisioterapia num hospital terciĆ”rio, em regime ambulatĆ³rio, num perĆodo de trĆŖs anos. Foram recolhidos dados de caracterizaĆ§Ć£o pessoal e clĆnica; aplicou-se a Motor Assessment Scale (MAS) e realizou-se o Timed Up and Go Test (TUG). Os dados foram analisados atravĆ©s de estatĆstica descritiva, de anĆ”lise de correlaĆ§Ć£o e de inferĆŖncia estatĆstica (teste de Qui-quadrado e teste de Mann-Whitney), considerando-se um intervalo de confianƧa de 95%. Resultados ā Dos 151 indivĆduos avaliados, 64 tinham menos de 65 anos (42,4%), incluindo 10 com menos de 45 anos (6,6%). O gĆ©nero masculino foi o mais atingido e a maioria dos casos foram AVC isquĆ©micos. Os mais jovens apresentaram um melhor desempenho funcional, maior percentagem de elementos com marcha autĆ³noma e melhor mobilidade funcional. Estas diferenƧas sĆ£o estatisticamente significativas ao comparar os resultados do TUG dos indivĆduos em idade ativa com os idosos (p=0,004) e da MAS entre os menores de 45 anos com os maiores de 65 (p=0,048). A maioria dos utentes avaliados encontrava-se em risco de queda, constatando-se uma associaĆ§Ć£o entre a idade e o risco de queda. Verificou-se uma correlaĆ§Ć£o negativa entre as variĆ”veis MAS e TUG. ConclusƵes ā Com este estudo, pelas suas dimensƵes e limitaƧƵes, nĆ£o Ć© possĆvel elaborar consideraƧƵes definitivas sobre o AVC em idade ativa e as suas repercussƵes funcionais; no entanto, pretende contribuir para uma reflexĆ£o sobre esta temĆ”tica. | dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT - Introduction ā Stroke increases with age, however, the disability resulting from stroke in a young and active population has a major impact on the individual and society. Aim ā To analyze personal, clinical and functional data of individuals with stroke in working age, verifying the association between variables and comparing their results with the elderly individuals with stroke. Methods ā Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The study population was individuals with strokes sent to ambulatory physiotherapy in a tertiary hospital, in a period of three years. Personal and clinical characteristics were collected; the Motor Assessment Scale (MAS) was applied and the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) was performed. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and statistical inference (Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney test), considering a 95% confidence interval. Results ā Of the 151 individuals evaluated, 64 were under 65 years (42.4%), including 10 under 45 (6.6%). The male gender was the most affected, and most cases were ischemic strokes. The younger ones had better functional performance, a greater percentage of elements with autonomous gait and better functional mobility. These differences are statistically significant when comparing the TUG results of the working-age individuals with the elderly (p=0.004) and the MAS among the under 45 years with those older than 65 (p=0.048). Most of the evaluated individuals were at risk of falling, being noticed an association between the age and the risk of fall. There was a negative correlation between the MAS and TUG variables. Conclusions ā With this study, due to its dimensions and limitations, it is not possible to elaborate definitive considerations about the stroke in working age and its functional repercussions; however, it intends to contribute to a reflection on this theme. Physiotherapists should be aware of the specific needs of this population and adapt their intervention in order to minimize the impact of this condition on the quality of life of individuals. | pt_PT |
