Abstract(s)
In recent years, the society has focused significantly on the environment and the consequences for the planet if nothing is done about the global warming. As the sun is a nonpolluting and inexhaustible source of energy, solar energy can be presented as a solution to this problem, in relation to dependence on fossil fuels. Sports facilities with indoor swimming pools are characterized by their high consumption of thermal and electrical energy, in order to provide their users with good water, air quality and thermal comfort. Thus, these consumptions must be minimized with the application of various measures to reduce energy use, as well as changes in the behavior of users, in order to reduce the environmental impact of these facilities. The main objective of this final master's work is to characterize the existing water heating system in the Municipal Pool of Alvito, Alcântara, Lisbon, with the purpose of preparing an energy study regarding the heating of the water in the two tanks present in this installation, as well as hot water. It was intended to carry out a design of a solar thermal system, that allowed an annual energy saving of 6.219,59€, the design of two heat pumps, resulting in an annual savings of 9.516,70€, as well as finding more ecological and economical solutions compared to the existing system. In order to reduce thermal losses by evaporation, which are the most relevant representing 61% of the total losses existing inside the indoor pool, an annual savings of 8.187,37€ was calculated through the installation of a cover along the water surface.
