Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: This current report presents the work developed during the Masters in Dance Education Internship, which occurred in Orfeão de Leiria - Dance and Arts Conservatory. This project was implemented in the Contemporary Dance Technique subject, using a sample of 5th year students from the Basic Dance Course who were frequenting the 2015/2016 academic year. The main theme stems from the analysis of the Basic Dance Course Curricular Program, given that it does not integrates a continued development of body, spatial, and relational concepts neither of choreographic structures, which is uniquely promoted during the 2nd year’s Creative Expression subject. Consequently, the implementation of Contact Improvisation exercises combined with Contemporary Dance Technique became relevant, in order to increase students' knowledge regarding improvisation and physical contact, without neglecting their technique and other basic curricula. The Contact Improvisation techniques were applied aiming to enrich the technical and artistic skills of the students, in particular their individual movement, spatial notions and group interaction skills, in order to promote more coherent and complex physical contact. Thus, creative tasks were developed assuming a dynamic and adaptive form to ensure the integration of pre-defined objectives and settling the expectable positive outcomes. This empirical research aims to demonstrate the potential of Contact Improvisation Techniques for the technical and artistic development of students through the use of the Research-Action methodology of qualitative nature. The methodology used was based on the Structured Observation, Accompanied Participation and Supervised Teaching, as well as data collection tools such as Measurement Scales, Logbooks and Audiovisual Records.
