Abstract(s)
Ao longo da atividade profissional, os trabalhadores podem estar expostos, no seu ambiente de trabalho, a fatores que representam risco para a sua saúde caracterizando-se como risco ocupacional. No qual inclui o risco biológico, associados a agentes microbiológicos, como bactérias, fungos, vírus, endoparasitas entre outros, capazes de causar doenças graves e colocar em risco a saúde publica. Neste trabalho pretende-se avaliar contaminantes microbiológicos nomeadamente, bactérias potencialmente patogénicas incluindo Staphylococcus aureus resistente a meticilina (MRSA), Escherichia coli, outros coliformes, Salmonella spp e Shigella spp., em ambientes de trabalho de contacto com a população nomeadamente em mercearias, o que pode representar um risco para os profissionais das mercearias e afetar toda comunidade. Foram realizadas recolhas de amostras, através de métodos passivos (Zaragatoa de superfície) em três zonas de amostragem (armazém, zona de pagamento e zona de frutas) de 15 mercearias de Região de Lisboa. Para cada amostra foi inoculado 100 μl de suspensão em meios de cultura seletivos nomeadamente, CHROMagar MRSA, CHROMagar ECC e S.S. Modified Agar. Após 24h e 48h de incubação a 37ºC foram contabilizadas as Unidades Formadoras de Colónias e avaliadas as UFC/ml. Foi detetado a presença de MRSA, no qual contatou-se que 12 das 15 mercearias estavam contaminadas, no total 26 UFC/ml às 24h e 40 UFC/ml em 48h, sendo que a zona com maior prevalência de MRSA é a zona de frutas. Também foi detetado a presença de E.coli, em 3 das 15 mercearias, com foco na zona de pagamento no qual a M5 constatou-se incontáveis UFC/ml. As leituras efetuadas a outros coliformes não apresentaram divergências associadas ao tempo de leitura no total 14 UFC/ml, com apenas 2 das 15 mercearias contaminadas. Não foram detetadas amostras com Salmonella spp ou Shigella spp. A presença de bactérias potencialmente patogénicas, demostra a necessidade da realização de avaliações periódicas e eficientes de forma a reduzir o risco de exposição microbiológica para os trabalhadores e os frequentadores das mercearias.
ABSTRACT - During the course of their professional activities, workers may be exposed, in their work environment, to factors that represent a risk to their health, which is characterized as an occupational risk. This includes biological risks, associated with microbiological agents, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and endoparasites, among others, capable of causing serious diseases and putting public health at risk. In this work, we intend to evaluate microbiological contaminants, namely, potentially pathogenic bacteria including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli, other coliforms, Salmonella spp., and Shigella spp., in work environments in contact with the population, which may represent a risk for grocery store professionals and affect the whole community. Samples were collected, using passive methods (surface swabs) in three sampling areas (warehouse, payment area, and fruit area) of 15 grocery stores in the Lisbon Region. For each sample, 100 μl of suspension was inoculated in selective culture media namely CHROMagar MRSA, CHROMagar ECC, and S.S. Modified Agar. After 24h and 48h of incubation at 37°C, Colony Forming Units were counted and CFU/ml was evaluated. The presence of MRSA was detected, in which 12 of the 15 grocery stores were found to be contaminated, with a total of 26 CFU/ml at 24h and 40 CFU/ml at 48h, and the area with the highest prevalence of MRSA was the fruit area. E.coli was also detected in 3 of the 15 grocery stores, with a focus on the payout zone in which M5 found countless CFU/ml. The readings for other coliforms showed no divergence associated with the reading time, totaling 14 CFU/ml, with only 2 of the 15 grocery stores contaminated. No samples were detected with Salmonella spp or Shigella spp. The presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria demonstrates the need for periodic and efficient assessments to reduce the risk of microbiological exposure for grocery store workers and patrons.
