Abstract(s)
This paper aims to analyse in what way can the leadership style adopted by a certain leader impact an individual’s level of commitment. The way leadership is practiced is relevant as it can determine an employee's involvement in their duties and, consequently, in their organization. Organizational commitment, as well as leadership, represents a timeless concept with a superlative influence in corporate success. Nowadays, companies are part of a globalized and constantly changing world. As a new generation enters the market, the complexity and need to ensure a good understanding between all employees, in order to ensure success and objectives’ achievement, are even greater. Therefore, it requires leaders to rethink and evaluate their own performance, so that they can raise the levels of commitment of all employees and manage to increase the performance of the organizations they lead. This is a deductive research with a quantitative approach and it aims to determine the influence of leadership on commitment, both globally and among generation Z. As for the methodology, data collection relies on the dissemination of a questionnaire that contains items about sociodemographic data, leadership and organizational commitment, and it has received 110 responses. After regression analysis, the results reveal that, in general, transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership influence organizational commitment and, among generation Z, only transformational and transactional leadership styles impact commitment. In future research, it would be interesting to apply the same study to specific areas or companies.
