Abstract(s)
conhecimento sobre o Coming of Age no contexto social português, considerando as experiências
geração Coming of Age.
of Age português.
base teórica para futuras investigações do Coming of Age no contexto português.
ABSTRACT: Coming of Age is a popular film genre that aims to portray the experience of growing up and maturing of one or more young people inserted in a particular culture. The present study intends to reflect on the Coming of Age film genre in mainstream cinema and to contribute to the body of knowledge about Coming of Age in the Portuguese social context, considering the experiences and characteristics of the Portuguese youth. To this end, the first three chapters are dedicated to the literature review as a theoretical basis to understand film genres; to define and characterise Coming of Age as a film genre; and lastly, to describe the Portuguese youth who currently make up the Coming of Age generation. Subsequently, we will proceed to the analysis of a Portuguese Coming of Age production. The object of study chosen was the series 5Starz, a recent Coming of Age series of Portuguese production, which is analysed by the application of an analysis grid. This investigation intends to start a discussion about the Coming of Age genre in Portugal and serve as a theoretical basis for future investigations of the Coming of Age in the Portuguese context.
