Abstract I (Teaching) - During the academic year 2017/2018, the stage of Specialized Artistic Education was developed at the Music Conservatory of Choral Phydellius, with a program of ninety lessons taught, which was attended by three students: a 1st grade student of the course Basic Music, a 3rd grade student of the Basic Music course and a 6th grade student of the Secondary Music course. The purpose of the internship was to acquire tools for instrumental teaching practice in the educational context of euphonium, aiming at the creation of new teaching methods for a more effective evolution of learning appropriate to the level of each student, as defined in the corresponding lesson plans elaborated. At the level of pedagogical practice the school was described, the students involved, as well as the educational practices developed by the teacher teaching and the respective critical analysis of the teaching activity. Based on the research theme, seven Portuguese popular music themes for euphonium were applied in class, and the same ones were arranged by the master's degree. The application of the themes of Portuguese popular music in the educational context of euphonium have enriched the curricular program, and the teacher has another valuable tool as an aid to pedagogical practice.
Abstract II (Research) - This research project deals with the topic Portuguese Popular Music in the educational context of the euphonium. The objective was to make known to the students, the vast and richest collection of Portuguese popular music, in the educational context of the euphonium. There was a profound lack of knowledge of Portuguese popular music by the students of the initial degrees of conservatory. At the same time, the lack of pedagogical methods in the context of euphonium was found to meet this problem. In this way it was intended to create an attractive pedagogical tool for the students, namely a euphonium method, and that it contributed in a large scale to the enrichment of the curricular program in the educational scope of the euphonium. Through the use of some popular themes as a pedagogical tool that allowed students to improve their technical and musical knowledge without forgetting the cultural importance of Portuguese popular music, the students were explained their sociocultural relevance and historical context through a brief review. A bibliographical query was made regarding the subject in question, being selected and arranged by the eighteen masters subjects popular for the first three degrees of conservatory. This selection approached popular themes taken from the Portuguese Popular Songbook, by Michel Giacometti, with the collaboration of Fernando Lopes-Graça. A survey of seven questions directed to Portuguese euphonists was carried out in order to understand in a generalized way what importance would be attributed to Portuguese popular music and its pertinent application in an educational context. Finally, a reflection was made on the importance of the theme.
