Este trabalho de mestrado investiga os desafios e potenciais do uso da Inteligência Artificial (IA) na produção cinematográfica independente, a partir de uma experiência prática que une criação artística e investigação académica. O estudo tem como ponto de partida a curta-metragem Não Contém Glúten, adaptada da peça homónima de Sérgio Roveri, utilizada como laboratório para testar ferramentas de IA em diferentes etapas do desenvolvimento audiovisual. Foram explorados moodboards, cenários híbridos, apoio à escrita dramatúrgica e a criação de um teaser experimental como prova de conceito.
A pesquisa articula duas dimensões: a teórica, que discute o estado da arte sobre IA e cinema e reflete sobre dilemas éticos e criativos; e a prática, que documenta a integração destas tecnologias no processo autoral. Como realizador independente, enfrento restrições orçamentais e a busca por autonomia criativa, e é dessa vivência que nasce esta investigação. O objetivo é compreender como a IA pode apoiar a criação sem substituir a dimensão humana, propondo um modelo que alia rigor académico, prática artística e reflexão pessoal.
ABSTRACT - This master’s thesis investigates the challenges and potentials of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in independent film production, based on a practical experience that combines artistic creation with academic research. The short film Não Contém Glúten, adapted from Sérgio Roveri’s play, served as a laboratory to test AI tools in different stages of audiovisual development. Experiments included moodboard creation, hybrid set design, dramaturgical support, and the production of an experimental teaser. The research unfolds in two dimensions: the theoretical, which discusses the state of the art on AI and cinema while addressing ethical and creative dilemmas; and the practical, which documents the integration of these technologies into an authorial workflow. As an independent filmmaker, I face budget constraints and pursuit of creative autonomy. The aim is to understand how AI can support authorial creation without replacing the human dimension, proposing a model that unites academic rigor, artistic practice, and personal reflection.
