Abstract(s)

An optimization technique, Global and Local Optimization using Direct Search (GLODS) is used to optimize stencil size and shape parameter of the multiquadric function used in the Radial Basis Function-Finite Difference (RBF-FD) meshless numerical method. The mechanical problem to be solved by the meshless method is a composite plate in bending, under sinusoidal load. Results show GLODS is capable of finding values for stencil size and shape parameter that produce excellent numerical solutions when compared with analytical solutions.
