Abstract - Prepared under the Master’s Degree in Music - Choral Conducting, this report describes the project “Freedom”, developed with the recently created Choir Miosótis, between February and June 2016. During these five months, this amateur choir rehearsed once per week in order to prepare the repertoire for presentation at the recital that took place at Evangelic Presbyterian Church of Lisbon, on July 10th 2016. In this recital, nine pieces were presented, related to the theme “Freedom”. Throughout the preparation process, group improvisation strategies were employed on a leadership basis directed towards facilitating the singer’s learning. The final goal was to foster an autotelic learning, which is a learning process whose purpose is in itself, focused on the choristers themselves and not on the conductor. Therefore, it was absolutely necessary to privilege a close relationship between conductor and choristers and to facilitate interpersonal relationships based on trust and proximity among the choristers themselves, since the quality of these human relationships would become a major pillar for the choral practice to be developed. This trustful and forthcoming environment was developed with the realization of inclusive practices, such as group dynamics, warm-up and integration exercises, which ultimately allowed for individual and whole group expression, transformation and growth of all members, including the conductor, exploratory approach to sound in all its diversity, and a richer and more complete interpretation of the selected repertoire. Noticeably, the choristers remained highly motivated throughout the process, developed musical skills inherent to the choral practice, namely linked to group consciousness, listening capacity, group creational capacity and musical interaction. They were also deeply involved in the regular choral activities and at the time of the recital.
