Deve ser ensinada em todos os níveis de educação, todas as faixas etárias e a todos os grupos profissionais. A formação financeira (primeiro passo para a literacia financeira), por sua vez, é de extrema importância para os jogadores de futebol, pois capacita-os a gerir adequadamente os seus salários frequentemente elevados, a planear o seu futuro e a preparar a transição para outras carreiras, após a desportiva. O principal objetivo desta investigação é contribuir para a formação financeira dos jogadores profissionais de futebol e, assim, capacitá-los a ter carreiras e pós-carreiras desportivas sustentáveis do ponto de vista financeiro. Ao longo do estudo pretendeu-se compreender os conceitos de literacia e formação financeira, conhecer a sua aplicabilidade na população portuguesa em geral, bem como nos jogadores profissionais de futebol, de modo a descobrir o melhor caminho para atingir o objetivo geral proposto. Para tal foi efetuada uma revisão de literatura, onde foram analisados documentos de entidades nacionais e internacionais, relatórios, artigos científicos e inquéritos realizados à população portuguesa e aos jogadores profissionais de futebol. Recorreu-se a uma metodologia de investigação mista que integrou um estudo qualitativo realizado junto de entidades responsáveis pelo futebol e um estudo quantitativo realizado a jogadores de futebol. Os resultados obtidos globalmente revelam que a oferta de uma formação financeira contínua é essencial para a resiliência financeira e o bem-estar financeiro e pessoal dos jogadores, ajudando-os a enfrentar os desafios únicos que encontram nas carreiras futebolísticas. As iniciativas devem oferecer suporte contínuo, durante a carreira, na transição para o pós-carreira e incluir ex-jogadores no processo. É essencial abordar os fatores psicológicos e sociais que influenciam os comportamentos financeiros dos jogadores, oferecendo suporte abrangente que vá além da educação financeira.Financial literacy plays a fundamental role in people's lives and in the stability of economies, as it enables economic agents to make informed and responsible financial decisions. Financial education (the first step towards financial literacy), in turn, is extremely important for football players, as it enables them to properly manage their often high salaries, plan their future and prepare for the transition to other careers after sport. The main aim of this research is to contribute to the financial education of professional footballers and thus enable them to have financially sustainable sporting careers and post-careers. The aim of the study was to understand the concepts of financial literacy and financial education, to find out how they apply to the portuguese population in general, as well as to professional football players, in order to discover the best way to achieve the proposed general objective. To this end, a literature review was carried out, analysing documents from national and international bodies, reports, scientific articles and surveys of the portuguese population and professional football players. A mixed research methodology was used, comprising a qualitative study of football organisations and a quantitative study of football players. The overall results show that the provision of ongoing financial training is essential for players' financial resilience and financial and personal well-being, helping them to face the unique challenges they encounter in their football careers. Initiatives should offer continuous support, during the career, in the transition to post-career and include former players in the process.
