De forma reflexiva, fundamentada e crítica, são abordados os benefícios e a importância de as crianças ouvirem histórias, de explorarem os livros, da presença/acesso destes no quotidiano das crianças, como também o papel dos/as educadores/as e famílias na leitura de histórias. O processo de investigação está inserido na linha de um estudo caso, de natureza maioritariamente qualitativa. Para a investigação foram definidos sete objetivos, estes foram pensados para se perceber qual o papel e contributo dos livros trazidos de casa pelas crianças, que benefícios tem a inclusão da leitura diária de histórias na rotina das crianças de jardim de infância, como também a influência que o ambiente da biblioteca tem nas escolhas das crianças e qual a opinião dos familiares, bem como da educadora cooperante relativamente à importância - ou não - da presença de histórias e livros no quotidiano das crianças nesta faixa etária. Participaram neste estudo 20 crianças, com idades compreendidas entre os 4 e os 5 anos, bem como os respetivos encarregados de educação e a educadora cooperante. Para recolher os dados deste estudo foram utilizadas técnicas como a observação direta, registada através das notas de campo, a entrevista semiestruturada, o inquérito por questionário e a pesquisa documental. A análise dos dados recolhidos foi feita através da análise de conteúdo, o que permitiu responder à problemática do estudo. Os resultados desta investigação mostram que as crianças têm interesse em ouvir histórias, bem como em explorá-las, existem fatores que influenciam as suas escolhas e tanto os pais como a educadora cooperante concordam com o facto de as histórias e os livros serem importantes no quotidiano das crianças.This report has as its investigative component “The benefits of including stories in the daily routine of a kindergarten classroom.” In a reflective, well-founded and critical way, the benefits and importance of children listening to stories, exploring books, their presence/access in children's daily lives, as well as the role of educators and families in reading stories are addressed. The research process is based on a case study, mainly qualitative in nature. Seven objectives were defined for the research, which were designed to understand the role and contribution of books brought from home by children, the benefits of including daily story reading in the routine of kindergarten children, as well as the influence that the library environment has on children's choices and the opinion of family members, as well as the cooperating educator, regarding the importance - or not - of the presence of stories and books in the daily lives of children in this age group. Twenty children aged between 4 and 5 years participated in this study, as well as their guardians and the cooperating educator. Techniques such as direct observation recorded through field notes, semi-structured interviews, questionnaire surveys and documentary research were used to collect the data for this study. The collected data were analyzed through content analysis, which allowed us to answer the study's questions.
